THE SOLUTION

Our plan is to add lower back vibration pads to the driver’s seat. These motion pads either vibrate in the left or right side of the driver's lower back depending on which side the pedestrian is coming from. The device we be connected to an app via Bluetooth, which will subscribe to information from the city's Smart Streetlights.

 

The information that will be utilized from the Smart Streetlights are pedestrian-traffic circulation, parking situations, and weather conditions.​ The app may also be used to modify the vibration pads (e.g. turned them on/off) and can help with pinpointing a user’s location through a GPS signal. By knowing a user's location, we can pull localized information from the Smart Streetlights and narrow down the details from their immediate surroundings.

Parts Breakdown

In the picture to the left, you can see our initial prototype. We attempted to create a "Wizard-of-Oz" model of our solution product. We attached two pockets to the lower left and right sides of a seat cover. Instead of vibration pads, we slipped our cell phones into the pockets and set them to vibrate when receiving a phone call.

 

We simulated our solution by calling the corresponding left or right cell phone number depending on which direction a person would walk from.
